Charleston, S.C. (May 19, 2026) – Saltwater Cowboys, in partnership with Huk and PENN® Fishing, will host the 2026 Huk Charleston Cobia Cup for the second year in a row, from May 28-30. Online registration closes Wednesday, May 27, with the kickoff party and onsite registration beginning Thursday, May 28, at 4:30 p.m. at Saltwater Cowboys, followed by dinner and the Captain’s Meeting. Basic entry registration fee is $800 per boat on or before May 27, and $1,000 per boat thereafter. All tournament festivities are free and open to the public.

The second-annual event promises a $100K+ premium gear giveaway from sponsors Huk, PENN, Berkeley Fishing, Plano Tackle and Savage Gear for the first 75 boats registered. Participants and spectators are invited to join the fun creekside for weigh-ins, live music, family-friendly activities, tournament retail and a vendor village. 

“Hosting the Huk Charleston Cobia Cup for a second consecutive year is a huge honor for us,” said Wade Boals, co-owner of Saltwater Cowboys. “This tournament brings together everything we love about the Lowcountry — great fishing, community, conservation and a celebration on the creek. Last year exceeded every expectation, and we’re excited to welcome anglers and families back to Saltwater Cowboys for an even bigger weekend in 2026.”

Joel LeVine, founder of RedFin Charters, based in Charleston, has teamed up with Brian Roberts, co-founder of the Huk Big Fish Classic, to create an exciting weigh-in event open to the public at Saltwater Cowboys that creates a conservation-forward mission and competitive format.

“This event was created to showcase one of the Southeast’s most exciting fisheries while also helping protect it for future generations,” LeVine said. “The response from the community has been incredible, and we’re building on last year’s momentum with an even stronger tournament experience and continued support for important conservation initiatives.”

A portion of tournament proceeds, entry fees and silent auction benefits will support local cobia conservation and hatchery programs along the Atlantic seaboard in partnership with the Community Professional Response Initiative, as well as hatchery efforts at the Waddell Mariculture Center with support from industry sponsors. Last year’s tournament proceeds supplied the center with $10,000 toward this research. Anglers will also receive fin clip genetic collection kits to provide valuable scientific data on both harvested and released fish. Located in Beaufort County, the Waddell Mariculture Center is one of the nation’s largest facilities dedicated to agriculture research.

“We’re proud to return as the title sponsor of the Huk Charleston Cobia Cup for a second year because events like this represent what fishing is really about — community, competition and time on the water together,” said Bryan Johnston, CEO of HUK. “Charleston is home for us, and supporting the anglers who fish these waters, from seasoned crews to the next generation coming up, is something we care deeply about. The Cobia Cup brings people together through a shared passion, and that’s exactly the kind of culture HUK was built around.”

Additional tournament sponsors include Power-Pole, Chittum Skiffs, Maritime Insurance International, BlackJack Boats, Costa, Wrapstar and First Reliance Bank; each sponsor will support one of the two fishing days. All tournament activities will be open to all ages. The front lawn at Saltwater Cowboys will feature games and activities for kids, along with a live stream of the weigh-in area.

South Carolina DNR will host an educational table at registration, and marine

biologists will be on-site throughout the event offering fin clip kits and DNA tagging instruction. During weigh-ins, DNA samples will be collected from the catch to support ongoing research and sustainability efforts.

USS Yorktown (CV-10): This Essex-class carrier was the tenth aircraft carrier (ever!) to serve in the U.S. Navy. Known as the famous “Fighting Lady,” the USS Yorktown received honors and battle stars for its service in the Pacific Theater during World War II. It also served in Vietnam and was the ship that recovered the Apollo 8 astronauts. This ship has served as the museum’s historic centerpiece since 1975.

USS Laffey (DD-724): This warship has some serious credentials. As the most decorated WWII-era destroyer still in existence, the Laffey provided support during D-Day and then transferred to the Pacific. It came to be known as “The Ship That Would Not Die.” It retired to Patriots Point in 1978 for some much-needed R&R on the Charleston Harbor (after serving in the Korean War and Cold War, of course).

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (March 10, 2026) – On Saturday, March 21, Saltwater Cowboys will become a playful pink paradise for its Ken & Barbie Party, debuting Sun Cruiser’s new Blueberry Lemonade canned beverage. The themed event will take place throughout the day, with doors opening at 11 a.m. until the music stops at 11 p.m.

Guests are encouraged to arrive dressed in their most creative Barbie- or Ken-inspired outfits — think pink, beach-chic and playful fashion — while enjoying drink specials, music and a festive waterfront vibe. The event will feature live entertainment from three DJs throughout the day, including See Jane Spin, DJ Cabana Vibes and DJ Discreet.

“Together with Sun Cruiser, we wanted to create a fun way to launch their new Blueberry Lemonade beverage," said Sean Maher, Saltwater Cowboys’ general manager. “With the weather turning warmer, we thought this would be the perfect launch party. Plus, for guests who come dressed the part and tag us on social, they will have a chance to win a $500 gift card.”

Mount Pleasant, S.C. (Feb. 12, 2026) – Saltwater Cowboys will present a $2,500 donation to Steadfast Recovery Ministries on Thursday, Feb. 12, during a check presentation at 6:30 p.m. at Saltwater Cowboys, 130 Mill Street in Mount Pleasant.

The contribution was raised during Miracle Charity Night on Dec. 19, 2025, when the community came together to support Steadfast’s faith-based programs that help men in the Lowcountry overcome addiction and build purposeful, long-term recovery.

Saltwater Cowboys’ owners Wade Boals and Brett Yearout both serve on Steadfast’s board of directors and have long been advocates for the organization’s work and impact in the community.

“Steadfast is doing life-changing work every single day, and we’re honored to support their mission,” said Wade Boals, co-owner of Saltwater Cowboys. “Hosting Miracle Charity Night allowed our team and guests to come together for a cause that truly matters to us, and we’re proud to present this donation to help further Steadfast’s efforts.”

Saltwater Cowboys announces major renovations while The Wagon To Go remains open for to-go and delivery

Hey, SWC Fam!

We will be temporarily closed through Jan. 16, 2026, to complete a significant renovation. This marks our first major renovation since we opened in 2017. 

After nearly a decade of serving the Lowcountry community, our Saltwater Cowboys team feels the time is right to refresh and enhance your guest experience. The renovation will include upgrades to the kitchen, dining room, and bar, along with new tables, chairs, updated colors, décor, and design elements throughout the restaurant. 

While the main restaurant is closed, you can still enjoy Saltwater Cowboys' favorites through The Wagon, located at the entrance to the restaurant on Mill Street. The Wagon, which opened this fall, offers convenient to-go ordering for pickup and delivery from our menu and is available on Uber Eats, DoorDash, and Grubhub.

We look forward to welcoming you back on Jan. 16, 2026, with a refreshed look while continuing to deliver the food, drinks, and waterfront atmosphere that have made us a local favorite.
