Our only article this month deals with the month of September, which will long be remembered.

Steve Purcell

A Bad Month

First, it was increasing gas prices due to higher demand from China and India.  Then there was Hurricane Katrina.  Only a couple of weeks later came Hurricane Rita.  To say the least, September has been an exciting month.

Gasoline prices spike somewhere around $3.50 per gallon.  The result was predictable.  Very few people were going on vacation or taking extended trips.  Revenue for guides as down sharply, and then they had to worry about a possible direct hit from Hurricane Rita.

The Texas Saltwater Fishing Guides web had sharply reduced traffic in September.  We attribute this to the start of the end season, the increased cost of fuel, and the presence of bad weather in the Gulf.  The situation was further exacerbated by almost totally negative coverage by the news media.

Through this bad month, the TSFGw has stood by its guides and will continue to support them in any way that we can.

The Texas Fishing News

Last month, we announced the rollout of the Texas Fishing News Web site.  The web site gives saltwater fishing guides much more exposure, and another place on the world wide web where their web site can be seen.  The web site is located at http://www.texasfishingnews.com.  This new web site advertises fishing guides, both saltwater and fresh water, in Texas.  The web site makes use of a "Guide Finder" feature.  This feature makes use of a map of Texas broken down into regions.  The user just clicks on the region that he wants to fish and a listing of guides for that area is displayed.  The listing contains all of the guides' contact information as well as links to his web site.  You can find a guide within 2-3 clicks of your mouse.  So check out the Texas Fishing News at http://www.texasfishingnews.com.
