Our only article this month deals with the month of September, which will long be remembered.

Gas Prices Stabilize

After a wild ride, gas prices appear to have stabilized for the time being at around $2.30 per gallon for unleaded regular gasoline.  Prices in September reached over $3.00 per gallon in some locations with Texas.  The price of gasoline, along with two huge hurricanes in the Gulf, cut deeply into the revenues and numbers of trips for saltwater fishing guides, in particular, along the northern gulf coast.  Gas prices have been steady or dropping for the last couple of weeks.  And, as always, Corpus Christi seems to have the cheapest gas.  The drop in prices, while welcome, has come at the end of a bad season for most guides.

Watch TP&W on Sea Grass

Well, I'm sure you have all heard of the recent goings-on regarding the sea grass issue in Redfish Bay.  The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, being a typical government bureaucracy, has had some trouble staying on the band wagon; i.e., actually agreeing to proposals on the sea grass issue that they said they would agree to.  Both the Coastal Bend Guides Association and the Port Aransas Boatmen have performed an exceptional service for their members, for saltwater fishing guides, and the economic area from Corpus Christi to Rockport.  Without the active participation of these two organizations, there would be no run zones within the designated no-prop zones.  Both organizations are emphasizing that TP&W must engage in an intensive, ongoing education of the general boating community, who are the primary culprits when it comes to prop-scarring.

The Texas Saltwater Fishing Guides web highly commends these two organizations for the stellar work they have done on this issue.
