TSFGw Sets New Record for Hits and Visits Again

During the month of March, our web site received 36,675 hits and 4,645 actual visits.  This is a threefold increase over our first year.  We also track the number of visitors that we send to our members' web sites.  These numbers are up sharply, also.  The TSFGw is sending between 95 and 115 visits each month to each of our members' web sites.  Based on the $80/year cost of membership, each visit costs a member between 6 and 7 cents.  Each month, we send our members' a report on how many visits they received from our web site.

Each of the visitors that we send to a members' web site is looking for a saltwater fishing guide, because they have already been to our web site.  If they weren't looking for a guide, they would leave before they got to a members' web site.  These visitors represent quality visits to a member's web site.

New Emphasis on Drug Cards by USCG

CPO John Schultz of the USCG addressed the Coastal Bend Guides Association at its April meeting.  Chief Schultz made the following points to the member guides.

Drug testing is a big issue.

  • A state fishing guide’s license requires a Coast Guard license, which requires having a drug card.
  • There is no check for drug cards at the time of issuing of the guide’s license.
  • If the Coast Guard comes on board, those without a drug card will get a “Notice of Violation” on the spot.  There is a fine for the ticket.  If you refuse the fine, then a civil penalty will be assessed.  If he comes again and you still don’t have a card, he will not give you another ticket, but will take you before an administrative law judge and seek to “put you on the beach for awhile”.
