Steve Purcell Consulting continues to excel in providing the best value for web services. We continue to rank high in the search engines, and we are providing more guides with hosting, web design, maintenance and advertising. On the top ten search engines, we currently have 26 first place rankings, 86 within the top five, 137 within the top ten, 175 rankings within the top twenty, and 199 rankings within the top thirty.
We now have a total of 13 guides advertising on the Texas Saltwater Fishing Guides Web (TSFGw) at http://www.txsaltwaterfishingguides.com. We have built a total of eleven web sites for saltwater fishing guides along the Gulf Coast, and we provide hosting for ten of those sites. We are proud to be the web master for the Coastal Bend Guides Association.
With our 26 first place rankings in the top ten search engines, the guides who advertise on the TSFGw are getting increasingly more visits to their web sites by potential customers. For $80 per year, this is turning into a real bargain. So don’t wait – click here to subscribe.

Changes to the Texas Saltwater Fishing Guides Web
Look for some changes this summer to the TSFGw web site. We are now giving the guides who subscribe to this web site the option of having a copy of their entire web site placed into ours. This gives us more content on our web site, which translates into higher rankings on the search engines, which in turn, means more visits to your web site. It also puts your web site into two locations on the world wide web – not just one. This gives you more visibility on the web. In your home page on our web site, we will install a hit counter so you can see how many people the TSFGw is sending your way.
Search Engines – What they are and how they work (Part II)
Last month’s article focused on defining search engines and providing some basic facts about them. This month, we look at what happens when a search engine begins to crawl your web site.
When a robot encounters your site, it first looks at the home page of your web site. It specifically looks at the META tags placed in the code of your web site. META tags are simply information about information – in this case they inform the crawler what it can expect to encounter on your web site.
The crawler then examines your web site and compares the content of your site to the META tags. This process usually occurs for each page in your web site.
All search engine companies hold their rankings procedures as proprietary information and will release very little information about how they rank sites to the public.
In general, to see your web site rise in the search engine rankings requires an ongoing commitment to keep the content of your web site growing and changing. You can’t really go wrong by writing relevant, timely content for your site. Put yourself in your customer’s position and see what you like and dislike about your web site.
Here are some tips:
Longevity – how long has your site been published? In general, sites that are older rank higher.
Size – often called “weight”, a larger web site will generally rank higher than a smaller one.
Content – Since the search engines crawl the web on a monthly basis, you should not go longer than two months before changing your content. If you can, change your content every month.
Links – Link popularity, particularly for Google, is often overlooked as a good strategy for increasing search engine rankings. Google looks closely at your reciprocal links. The more you have the higher you will rank.
