Volume 2, No. 1 Jan. 1st, 2004
Publisher’s Comments
The new year starts out with some major additions to the Texas Saltwater Fishing
Guides Web. The site now offers a News section, with articles from major Texas
newspapers, so you don’t have to subscribe. There is also a Fishing Report
section, which features links to the daily fishing reports of the Houston
Chronicle and the Corpus Christi Caller Times. We have also implemented an
advertising program from Google – the leading Search Engine on the Web. There is
also a new section called Fish Facts, which gives information about the habits
of the most popular Texas sport fish. Steve
Purcell A Hearty Welcome to Our
New Guides
The Texas Saltwater Fishing Guides Web is pleased to
announce two new members. Gil Reyna is a full-time saltwater fishing guide who
works the Galveston Bay complex. Rick Karpiuk works Galveston, Freeport and
Matagorda Bays. Both guides work the upper Gulf Coast and are the first two
guides from that region to subscribe to our web site. Welcome, Gents! Ads by Google
Undoubtedly, many of you have seen the "Ads by Google" Advertising Bar on the right side of some of our web pages. This program pays the Texas Saltwater Fishing Guides Web (very little) for some discrete, unobtrusive advertising relating to the nature of the web site. This is a way of lowering our Search Engine Costs, which are significant. The ads feature anglers, marinas, tackle businesses, etc. I want to strongly encourage everyone to click on some of these links, as I only get paid for clicks on the links. Thanks in advance for your support on this. If you see advertising for a site that you think competes with you, then please email me the address of the site, and I will lock it out.
There are some good deals with online tackle shops, etc. Also, you can get an
idea of what the rest of the saltwater fishing community is doing, and maybe get
some ideas for your own web site.
TSFGw Implements News Section
The Texas Saltwater Fishing Guides
Web has implemented a News section. The News can be reached from the News Menu
Item on the Main Menu. We feature articles of interest from The Houston
Chronicle, The Dallas Morning News, The Fort Worth Star Telegram, The San
Antonio Express News, and the Corpus Christi Caller Times. Keep an eye on this
section because it contains interesting articles that directly impact the Texas
Saltwater Fishing Guide. For example, this month features an article on record
catches for Texas anglers. Last month’s news contained an article on using the
USS Oriskany for an artificial reef.
TSFGw Implements Fishing Reports Section

Steve Purcell Consulting Rolls Out new Site for CBGA
Last month we announced that Steve Purcell Consulting, the publisher of this newsletter, and the Texas Saltwater Fishing Guides Web Site, had been made the Web Master of the Coastal Bend Guides Association. We are pleased to announce the rollout of a completely new web site for the CBGA. You may reach the site by going to: http://www.cbga.org. The new web site features listings of guides with their picture and contact information, a calendar, News Port, and Public Chat. A members only section includes a Bulletin Board and Private Chat.
Once again, we encourage all saltwater fishing guides within the Coastal Bend to become members of this non-profit association.
Benefits include higher visibility
for your web site. The CBGA web site will be optimized for the most popular
Search Engines, such as Google, and MSN. This will ensure high rankings in
Search Engine results. Membership rewards also include the ability to have a
strong voice regarding issues of immediate concern to the livelihood of all
saltwater fishing guides. Beware of
Those "Free" Web Sites
Those free web sites are just that – free.
Basically what you get is some disk storage on a server farm and that is all.
Many of the Search Engines will not index sites on free servers. So, if you
are wondering why you never get any hits on your "free" web site, this could
very well be the reason. The Texas Saltwater Fishing Guides Web would be happy
to help guides move to an inexpensive, reputable web host. Average costs for web
hosting run about $10.00 per month. We do business with several of these web
hosting sites, and their servers are indexed by all of the major search engines.
